Baxter County Secures $9.8 Million Grant for New Library

MOUNTAIN HOME, AR - The Baxter County Library has secured a $9.8 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to build and furnish a new two-story library.

The Baxter County Library Foundation has worked for two years to convince the foundation to award the grant, and they also used that time to raise local funds.

The foundation is more than halfway toward raising another $2 million.  The group says the grant will pay for the new library, but not to run it.  That money will have to come from local sources.

The library had about 150,000 patrons last year, a number that officials say could double when the new library opens.

In September 2003, Baxter County voters defeated two tax proposals that would have funded a new library.
