ARI Investor Wants to Talk About a Merger

PARAGOULD, AR - Business investor Carl Icahn, who recently purchased 9.5 percent of the Greenbriar Companies, Inc., says he's interested in talking about a merger with American Railcar Industries, which operates manufacturing facilities in Paragould, Marmaduke and Kennett, MO.

Icahn already owns 53.7 percent of ARI.  He said in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission that he hasn't yet made an offer to ARI.  Icahn said in the filing that he's committed to acting in the best interests of Greenbriar shareholders.

Greenbriar, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, builds new railroad freight cars in its three manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Mexico.

ARI broke ground in July on an expansion project at its Marmaduke plant.  The expansion was part of $51 million worth of expansion projects by the company that will create more than 300 new jobs at the Marmaduke and Paragould plants.
