Governor Authorizes National Guard Help for Storm Recovery

SPRINGFIELD, MO - Governor Blunt is authorizing the National Guard to provide emergency help to local jurisdictions recovering from a severe winter storm.

Blunt also activated the State Emergency Management Agency to coordinate help among state agencies.

Two traffic deaths and more than 50 injuries are blamed on the ice storm that hit southern Missouri on Monday.

Crews are continuing efforts to restore power and clear tree limbs from power lines.

City Utilities in Springfield says it has 75 tree crews and 45 line crews at work on 16-hour shifts.  It says about 4,100 customers are still without power.
