LITTLE ROCK, AR - The state's largest labor organization is backing a proposed state-run lottery to fund college scholarships.
The Arkansas AFL-CIO has endorsed Lt. Governor Bill Halter's proposec constitutional amendment to create a lottery, said Bud Jackson, a spokesman for Halter's lottery campaign.
Supporters must gather 78,000 signatures by July 7 to put the proposal on the November ballot. Halter has said a lottery could bring in $100 million annually for college scholarships.
