Beebe Weighs in on A-State Mascot Change

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Everyone has an opinion about the Indian name change and that "everyone" includes Arkansas's governor, Mike Beebe.

The impending mascot change at Arkansas State University has generated a lot of discussion.  A famous A-State graduate himself, Governor Mike Beebe was in Jonesboro Wednesday, speaking before the Kiwanis Club and had a chance to weigh in on the mascot name change.

Beebe says, "I'm an Indian.  I'm still an Indian. I 'll always be an Indian.  I'll be happy with whatever they end up doing.  I'll support it no matter whatever it is, the Wolves or Red Wolves, but it's hard to get that Indian out of you too.  I'll be there whatever it is."

The school has narrowed down the selection to Wolves but they're also considering Red Wolves.

Arkansas State is to hold a February 28th ceremony to formally retire its Indian nickname.
