More Than 1,000 Utility Workers, National Guard on the Job in Southeast Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - More than 1,000 AmerenUE workers from across Missouri and neighboring states, along with independent contractors, are working with the utility company in southeast Missouri to restore power to people still without electricity today.

AmerenUE spokesperson Susan Gallagher said 1,100 workers from outside the region are in southeast Missouri today, working to repair the remaining power outages caused by widespread ice storms.

This morning, about 3,000 people in the Cape Girardeau area were still without power.

Meanwhile, approximately 30 soldiers with the Missouri National Guard are making door-to-door well-being checks today in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties.  Governor Matt Blunt called up the citizen-soldiers late Wednesday.
