Economic Stimulus Rebate Scam

REGION 8 (KAIT) - Region 8 residents awaiting those much talked about rebate checks should be on the lookout for a scam making its way around the nation.

The IRS is warning taxpayers to stay alert regarding scams for their payment checks.

The scam goes something like this:

A consumer receives a call from a person identifying themself as an IRS employee.  The caller then says he needs the target's bank account information for direct deposit of the funds.  If the consumer refuses, he/she is then told that the consumer is ineligible for the rebate.

This, of course, is false.

Tonight on Region 8 News at Six, Keith Boles will go over this scam as well as what you need to know and what professionals say you should do to keep your financial life secure.
