Injured Craighead Deputy Continues Recovery in Memphis Hospital

MEMPHIS, TN - The status of an injured Craighead County sheriff's deputy who was critically injured in a car accident while on the job on February 10 continues to improve.

Sheriff Jack McCann says deputy Donna Cromwell's condition is now considered as "stable," following the accident which caused multiple injuries to her head, neck, back and legs.  McCann said he visited Cromwell on Sunday at The Med in Memphis, where she remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit.  "She's doing much better," said McCann.  "She was alert and talking, and is just so much better."

The sheriff said Cromwell underwent more surgery to her neck and back on Monday, and is slated for more surgery.  While "she still has a long way to go," according to McCann, he said doctors are hopeful that Cromwell will be able to return to Jonesboro in approximately two weeks to begin rehabilitation at the HealthSouth re-hab hospital.

Cromwell's police cruiser overturned as she was responding to a call ten days ago.
