Cape's Federal Courthouse Repairs to Start in March

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - The new federal courthouse in Cape Girardeau may be ready for occupancy by May after additional work on the building begins next month.

That's more than a year-and-a-half after the originally projected July 2006 opening.

Last month, Congress approved additional spending on contracts needed to complete the building, said Charlie Cook, spokesman for the General Services Administration.

Contracts for an additional $2.2 million in design and construction are being negotiated.

The project's cost rose more than $12 million above the original $50 million estimate.
