CARUTHERSVILLE, MO - Authorities in Pemiscot County have seized eight horses and 23 dogs in an animal abuse investigation.
Three horses died before help arrived.
The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department and the Caruthersville Humane Society seized the horses Friday at a county road property where the horses were subsisting on muddy water and wood. Three others had died from malnutrition and illness, Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell said.
Authorities also seized 23 dogs from a home in Caruthersville. The dogs were running loose or cramped in small crates in a house covered with feces.
No charges have been filed.
