Henderson State U. Names New President

ARKADELPHIA, AR - Henderson State University has a new president.

Charles Welch, who is now chancellor at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, was announced yesterday as president.

Welch, who is 34, will take over July 1.  He replaces Charles Dunn, who served as Henderson's president for 22 years and will retire at the end of June.

Bruce Moore, president of Henderson State's Board of Trustees, called Welch a "visionary."

Welch has served as chancellor at Hope since 2005.  Before that, he served as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Arkansas State-Beebe and dean of University Studies at Pulaski Technical College.
