Independence County Authorities Searching for Possible Drowning Victim

BATESVILLE, AR - Authorities and rescue personnel in Independence County this morning are resuming the search for a man who disappeared yesterday at Lock & Dam #2 on the White River.

According to a statement from Sheriff Keith Bowers, deputies were dispatched to the scene on Lock 2 Road around noon Tuesday after a worker identified as 26-year-old Heath Baird of Batesville apparently fell in the river while "attempting to clear trash away from the plant site."

According to a radio dispatcher, it is not known for certain if Baird fell in the water, but he is considered missing at this time.

Members with the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission are assisting with the search for Baird.
