Great Dane to Close Trailer Plant in Mississippi

GREENVILLE, MS - Great Dane Trailers, which operates a plant in Jonesboro, will close its plant in Greenville, Missississippi on March 21.

The company cut jobs at the plant in September, then again in December, and recently cut back to 28-hour weeks for employees.  Company spokeswoman Brandie Fuller says business has not turned around since January when workers were told closure was anticipated.

The Georgia-based company builds trailers for companies that use both dry and refrigerated space.

In January of 2007, the company's Jonesboro plant announced the lay-off of approximately 140 of its employees.  Great Dane purchased the Jonesboro plant from TrailMobile in 2002, after TrailMobile filed for bankruptcy.

The company also operates facilities in Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
