Snowy Region 8 Roads

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The snow began early Tuesday Morning coating the ground and in parts of Region 8 the roads.

In Lawrence county the phones began ringing around four-thirty with reports of icy roads and accidents. Plows, wreckers and deputies and state police began the task of dealing with the accidents.

No major accidents with injuries were reported although a semi truck slid off the road and overturned when it swerved to miss a skidding car. The truck was damaged and lost about half of its load of steel.

Along hiway 226 a pickup owned by  Farley Jackson of Tucker man slid off the road and into a ditch. Jackson said he was on his way to work when he found himself sliding. He sat by the side of the road for a couple of hours until his cousins pulled him out.

In Newport about 4 inches of snow fell making a picturesque spot of the city park just right to bring your dog to play in the snow or make a snowman.

One aspect of Tuesdays snowfall could be flooding. Highway 226 has spots now that are currently flooded and with the snow fall the problem could become worse. Drivers are cautioned to be careful off main highways and be aware of the dangers of driving through flooded areas.
