Family Searches For Answers in Lester Tragedy

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - As Memphis police investigators searched for clues Tuesday in the house on Lester where six bodies were found Monday night, the family of Cecil DeWayne Dotson, the man renting the house, wondered who would do something so horrible.

"I'm lost," said Dotson's mother, Priscilla Shaw. "I just my baby...lost my grand babies. They all gone, for what? And I don't know why."

Dotson's family said he was killed in the house along with his girlfriend, one of his friends, and that man's girlfriend. Two of Dotson's children were also found murdered in the house, and three of his other children were hospitalized at Le Bonheur.

Dotson's sister, Nicole Dotson, said she knew of no reason why anyone would do such a thing.

"He ain't got nothing. Why would you go to somebody's house when they ain't got nothing but groceries?

Nicole Dotson did not believe any drugs were in the house.

"No drugs, as far as I know," she said.  "I didn't see him with anything.  The raggedy car in the driveway needs fixing.  I don't see him with anything."

Cecil Dotson's criminal record includes charges for reckless driving, aggravated assault, and a protection order.

On January 9th, Dotson was charged with aggravated robbery.  According to the court documents, Dotson was scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Dotson did not appear Tuesday, but his attorney did, and his case was rescheduled for April 9.

Family members said they had received little information from police about the murder investigation.
