Murder Charges Dropped in Newark Stabbing

NEWARK, AR - Second-degree murder charges have been dropped against a Newark man who allegedly stabbed another man to death on Saturday following an argument over a $50 debt.

Authorities say an altercation apparently broke out between 28-year-old Josh Richardson and 37-year-old Tommy Bearden early Saturday evening at the home of David Duncan, identified as Bearden's brother.  Richardson reportedly confronted Bearden over a $50 debt.  The confrontation then escalated, ending with Richardson's death of an apparent stab wound to the chest.

Bearden met with sheriff's deputies later and was eventually charged with second-degree murder, with bond set at $100,000.  However, a spokesman with the Sheriff's Dept. says further investigation has revealed that Bearden acted in self-defense, and the charges have since been dropped.
