Two Arkansas Tech Students Arrested in Shooting

RUSSELLVILLE, AR - Two Arkansas Tech University students are in jail after being arrested on suspicion of felony theft and shooting charges.

DeMario Dansberry, 27, and 19-year-old Devante White are being held on $500,000 bonds.  Police say the two, along with 25-year-old Marcell White, were arrested Sunday night after police say they fired at least thirty 9-milimeter rounds into the air from a car parked near James Park in Russellville.  No one was injured.

Officers reported finding three 9 mm pistols, a bulletproof vest, a box of .40-caliber rounds, a clip for a .40-caliber pistol and several spent casings in the car and on its roof.

The men appeared before a judge for a hearing Monday, attended by Tech's football defensive coordinator Benyard Jones and receivers coach Ryan Wallace.  The judge ordered Marcell White to be held on $750,000 bond.

They will appear in court March 24 if prosecutors charge them.  If convicted of both charges, the men could face a maximum of 40 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

University spokeswoman Susie Nicholson confirmed that both Dansberry and White are students at Arkansas Tech, but declined to comment further on the incident.
