Advocacy Group Says One Arkansan Dies Daily from No Insurance

LITTLE ROCK, AR - An advocacy group says a lack of health insurance contributes to the death of one Arkansan each day, on average.  The Families USA report, released in Washington, D.C., says uninsured adults are more likely to be diagnosed with diseases when it is too late to be cured.

People without insurance often forgo reguar checkups.

"Health insurance is an important factor when people decide if they should seek treatment and without it, too many people are skipping life-saving, preventative care," Rep. Marion Berry said in remarks prepared for delivery later Thursday.

According to the report, 390 working-age Arkansans died in 2006 because of a lack of health insurance.
