Arkansas Train Accidents Fall by 25 Percent

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas experienced 19 fewer train derailments and collisions in 2007, compared with 2006.  The 25 percent decline in accidents is part of a nationwide trend that marked last year as the safest year in freight railroad history.  The number of train accidents across the U.S. declined for the third consecutive year, according to preliminary data from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

Arkansas was one of 34 states that saw a reduction in incidents, and one of 11 states to report a decrease of 17 or more accidents.  Others included California, Texas, New York, Georgia, Illinois, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Montana, Kansas and Maryland.
