Levee Breaks Along the Black River near Missouri, Arkansas Border

Butler County, MO (KAIT) - Water that either overtopped a levee or came through from a break in the levee along the Black River in southern Butler County stranded about 18 people there.

Emergency crews rescued about 18 people who were stuck from the levee breach.  There are no reports of injuries.  The Black River reached a record high yesterday in Poplar Bluff before cresting.

The water outside the levee is making its way south toward Arkansas.  Right now, emergency management officials do not think the water will be a threat to Corning.  The National Weather Service is monitoring the situation.
