MoDOT: State's Major Roads are Improving

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - The state transportation department says Missouri's major roads are in much better condition than they used to be.

The department says 78 percent of major highways are now in good condition.  That's up from 46 percent in good condition three years ago.

The Department of Transportation defines major roads as interstates and heavily traveled U.S. routes such as highways 36, 60 and 63.

Many of those roads have been repaved following a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2004.  That amendment directed more state money to roads.
