State Police Now Investigating MLK Commission

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Arkansas State Police have begun an investigation into former employees of the state Martin Luther King Commission at the request of the new commission director.  Director DuShun Scarbrough asked the police agency in a March 14 letter to investigate "the recent actions of former leaders and staff members."

Scarbrough said former employees and affiliates were seen removing commission property.  He said eight boxes were removed from the office and computer data was erased.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette obtained the letter through a Freedom of Information Act request.  Police spokesman Bill Sadler confirmed that the agency is conducting the probe.  He said state police will turn their findings over to a prosecutor to determine if charges are warranted.
