LITTLE ROCK, AR - A school bus carrying elementary school students caught fire and the driver was able to get everyone off the bus safely.
Pulaski County Sheriff's Office spokesman John Rehrauer says the vehicle was destroyed Monday morning but no one was hurt. Rehrauer praised the bus driver for quickly getting the young children off the vehicle. The driver's name wasn't immediately available.
The driver noticed smoke coming from the front console and then outside the bus. She was taking Pulaski County Special School District students to Daisy Bates Elementary School at about 7:30 a.m. Rehrauer says 23 or 24 students were on the bus.
The driver quickly called for help and volunteer firefighters and sheriff's deputies responded.
