FRUITLAND, MO - Humane Society of Missouri investigators are evaluating several horses seized from a property in southeast Missouri's Cape Girardeau County.
The horses are described as extremely malnourished. Authorities say they were kept in filthy conditions without adequate food and water. Several reportedly had large, open sores on their bodies.
The animals were removed Tuesday and Wednesday from property near Fruitland. Humane Society investigator Kyle Held says some of the horses may have to be euthanized.
The exact number of animals taken was not immediately known.
