HENDERSON, AR (KAIT) - The Army's Corps of Engineers this afternoon increased the flow of water from Norfork Dam to a rate of 83,000 cubic feet per second from both the spillway and turbines.

According to the Baxter Bulletin newspaper in Mountain Home, the spillway gates were opened at 4 a.m. this morning.

Shortly after noon, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for parts of Baxter County.  That warning expired at 3:15 p.m.

NWS radar indicated heavy rainfall over portions of Baxter County and the Corps will increase water releases from the dam due to excessive rain, with flooding along the Norfork River from the dam to the White River.  Excessive rainfall and reservoir releases will create significantly higher river stages.
