Offbeat: Feet of Fire

BRANSON, MO(KAIT)--A trip to Silver Dollar City in the spring is like going global without ever leaving the Ozarks.  Each spring the proud citizens of Silver Dollar City welcome international performers from around the world to share their stories and trade their traditions.  It's called World-Fest and it's SDC's way of going global.

In 2008 World-Fest celebrates the spirit of Ireland with Ireland's Feet of Fire! This elaborate all-new stage show features live Irish music, champion step dancers and symbolic fire dancing. All of the talented ensemble of the Celtic Isles share their country's traditions and folklore on the world's stage, through music and dance.

"It's spectacular, beautiful, and fantastic," said Rex Burdette, World-Fest organizer.  "We traveled to Ireland back in the fall for auditions and started rehearsals in March.  Feet of Fire is all about fast dancing, so fast you feet start smoking and we add a fire dancer to heat things up, just in case somebody's slacking."

For many of the dancers, it's their first big show and their first trip to America.  "It's brilliant," said 20 year old Gillian Madders of Washford, Ireland. "I've been dancing since I was 4 and ever since I first saw River Dance, I knew that's what I wanted to do and now I'm doing it.  It's just brilliant!"

Besides the irish dancers, worldfest features the Acrobats of China, the Watoto Childrens Choir from Uganda, the steel drums of Trinidad, and the Russian Academic Band, just to name a few.

If you're looking to experience a little taset of the world, without having to spend a fortune to get there then Silver Dollar City's World-Fest is the place to be.  But you'd better huryWorld-Fest ends on May 4th.
