White River Crests at Historic Stages

JACKSON COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The White River in Jackson County crests at 33.16 feet and should fall below major flood stage tomorrow night, but for residents in Newport, historic river stages are taking their toll.

Officials with the national weather service say the white river crested only two feet away from hitting an all-time record.

"This is our second time to get out in 3 1/2 weeks this is worst than it was the first time." commented Aneta Pope, a resident in the area.

We're told that White River will remain at flood stage in the area for the next few days but will slowly start to recede.
