'Big Give' Draws Big Region 8 Crowd

HIGHLAND, AR (KAIT)- Hundreds gathered in the spot where the Highland Fire Department once stood to cheer on their town, which continues to rebuild after a tornado touched down, destroying dozens of homes and businesses.

Tina Erwin arrived at 11 a.m. to bring attention to a story Region 8 news brought you a few weeks ago .. flooding at the nearby town of Williford's library.

"I got here early because I wasn't sure what was going to happen," said Erwin. "I wanted to get some attention for the library."

Others are still shaken by seeing all the damage done to their city by the tornado.

ABC, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and KAIT  teamed up to bring 'Oprah's Big Give' to the Highland Fire Department.

"From Oprah's Big Give, ABC and KAIT, we'd like to present the city of Highland with $10,000," said KAIT General Manager, Tim Ingram.

That money will go to the rebuilding of a new fire department.

"It means a lot because we weren't expecting it," said Highland Fire Chief, Stephen Davis.

100 Midland (tm) weather radios were given away. Those are available at any Barton's Do-It Center.
