Arkansas Researcher Awarded $1.3 Million Grant

FAYETTEVILLE, AR - A University of Arkansas researcher at Fayetteville has gotten a $1.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for a study that could help explain what contributes to diabetes-related complications.

Specifically, Mahendra Kavdia of the College of Engineering is studying the causes of endothelial cell dysfunction.  He said he hopes the research will help scientists understand the molecular process underlying this dysfunction.  Kavdia is the first biomedical engineer hired by the university to its faculty.
