Earthquake Insight Field Trip to Tour Parts of Region 8

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The Earthquake Insight Field Trip will be in the area on Thursday and Friday of this week.  Field trip participants are high-level executive leaders in the insurance, finance and business sectors who are learning first-hand about earthquake risks in the New Madrid Fault zone of the central U.S.  About 38 people will participate in the tour.

The trip is sponsored by the U.S. Geological Survey.  Approximately twelve geologists, geoscientists, engineers, emergency managers and a historian will lead the group on the trek from Memphis and through the heart of the fault zone.

One of the key stops along the route will be at the Yarbro community, about five miles northwest of Blytheville near the Arkansas/Missouri state line, where the group will study liquefaction features and tree stumps buried in the massive 1811-1812 New Madrid earthquakes.
