Plane Leaving Memphis Returns for Emergency Landing

MEMPHIS, TN - A Delta Connection jet bound for Atlanta turned around and made an emergency landing at Memphis International Airport after reporting engine trouble.

Flight 4230 was being operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines.  Airline spokeswoman Kate Modolo said the plane left the gate just after 5 p.m. Thursday.

The pilot declared an emergency shortly after takeoff because of suspected engine trouble and returned to the airport, making an emergency landing.

There were 70 passengers on board but none were injured.

Modolo said maintenance crews were checking the plane to determine the cause of the trouble.
