Jury Hearing Case Against Arkansas Children's Hospital

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A family is seeking damages from Arkansas Children's Hospital after setting their complaint against a doctor who began operating on the left side of a 15-year-old boy's brain before removing a lesion from the right side.

Cody Metheny, now 19, and his parents settled their case against Dr. Badih Adada but they want the hospital to also bear some responsibility for the surgery that they say left Metheny with limitations that prevent him from ever holding a job or living on his own.

A jury is hearing testimony in the second week of the Pulaski County Circuit Court lawsuit.  Sherry Mansell, hospital director of quality improvement, testified that the hospital has a policy specifically addressing surgery on body parts that come in pairs.  She said the brain, however, was considered a single organ.
