Suspicious Fires Under Investigation in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - Authorities in Cape Girardeau are investigating a string of suspicious fires, including one that claimed the life of a 42-year-old man.

George Robinson died of smoke inhalation from the first of three Tuesday morning fires that authorities say were intentionally set.  Police reports show the building is owned by former state Rep. Nathan Cooper.

Police say 19 suspicious fires have been set in the city since April 2005.

Cape Girardeau Fire Marshal Mike Morgan says test results from some of the blazes indicate the presence of commonly used accelerants.
