ATLANTA, GA - For the first time in its history, retailer Home Depot will be closing stores because they aren't performing well.
The leading home improvement retailer says it will close 15 stores. The move will affect 1,300 workers.
Sources at the Jonesboro store told Region 8 News that the local franchise will not be affected, nor will any other Home Depot stores in Arkansas.
The Atlanta-based chain says the stores will be shuttered within the next two months. The company has been hurt by the slump in the housing market.
Even so, Home Depot says it still plans to open 55 new stores over a year's time. It operates 2,258 stores in the United States, Canada, Mexico and China.
