Small Earthquake This Morning in St. Louis County

FENTON, MO - There are no reports of damage after a small earthquake shook parts of the St. Louis area this morning.

The magnitude 2.7 quake at 6:25 a.m. was centered in Fenton in southwest St. Louis County.  Residents from around the region felt the tremor.

Last month, a 5.2 earthquake shook much of the Midwest.  Its epicenter was near West Salem, IL, near the Indiana border.  More than two dozen aftershocks followed that quake, including some registering 4.0 magnitude and higher.  Seismologists say the aftershocks were nothing unusual.

The St. Louis region sits along the New Madrid fault line.
