Offbeat: Weird World Rocket

GREENE CO., AR (KAIT) - There's a rocket in the middle of nowhere, at least it looks like a rocket.  It stands 30 feet tall and appears poised for launch.  The rocket is the newest addition at Tim's Weird World, a sign to the world that this isn't your typical retail store.

The rocket is actually an old fuel tank for a WWII bomber plane and was used as a sign at another Paragould business, more than 20 years.

"The first time I saw it, I knew I wanted to make it a rocket," said Steve Eubanks.  "I just didn't know how I would get it and what I would use it for."

In 2008, Steve found the fuel tank in a salvage yard in Paragould, bought it and the transformation began.  He and Tim stripped it, repainted it, added a nose cone with a red blinking light.  They built some stabilizers and planted the bottom 10 feet into the ground and encased it in concrete.  A sign painter then came out and added the "Tim's Weird World" lettering and logo.

"I think it turned out better than I'd hoped," said Steve"

"It's truly the perfect sign for this business," echoed his son, Tim.  "People come by all the time to check it out.  It's almost turning into its on tourist attraction."

A trip into Tim's Weird World, just outside of Paragould, is a trip into the mind and soul of Tim Eubanks.  As a kid, Tim became a collector of comic books, music, movies, and toys, lots of toys.  Now Tim has taken his collection of all things weird and stuffed them in a store.

"It's got sort of a museum quality to it," said the 29 year old Eubanks.  "It's one thing to have all this stuff in your house, it's something else to put it all up for sale."

Tim has nearly 5,000 "old school" vinyl records, most of them classic rock from the 60's, 70's and 80's.  There is also video rental section with only bad martial arts movies and really bad horror flicks.  There are plenty of vintage comic books and super hero figurines, most impressive is probably Tim's collection of vintage toys.  Tim even has the largest toy ever made, the G.I. Joe U.S.S. Flag, a 7 1/2 foot aircraft carrier.

"I had one of these when I was a kid and destroyed," said Eubanks.  "I always wanted to get another and I'm willing to bet you won't find one of these within 500 miles.  It's pretty impressive."

The price tag is pretty impressive too, $1,000, but that does include the original box.  And like the Flag, Tim has lots of impressive one-of-a-kind toys.

Tim said, "I love all this stuff, but first and foremost, I'm a business man.  So if you want to buy something, you'll take away a little piece of me with you, but I'll sell it to you."
