JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- For Sergeant First Class Steve Holcomb's wife, Megan, she couldn't be happier with her graduation gift because she say's it's perfect. It's her husband.
"It is wonderful," said Holcomb. "We were a little afraid that he wouldn't make it on time but we're really excited right now."
SGT Holcomb arrived at the ASU Convocation Center Friday from Iraq just in time to see his wife of less than a year get pinned as a new officer.
"You have no idea how hard it was to get here on time," he said.
After traveling more than 50 hours straight, he made it. Much to the satisfaction and relief of his family.
"We knew his plane was landing at 2," said Charlene Holcomb, Steve's mom. "The ceremony started at 3:30 so that's cutting it very close."
For the eight cadets, their status as officers became official. It's a moment special guest speaker MG Elder Granger says is like no other.
"There's a little fear and trepedation because you're know officially an officer," said Granger.
"They have become officers. They came in like babies and now they're ready to take commands and fight for our country," said Penny Payne, with ASU's ROTC.
The eight cadets will participate in Saturday's graduation ceremony at ASU. It starts at 2 p.m.
