Early Morning Shooting in Trumann Leaves 1 Dead, 1 in Custody

TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - One man is dead and another is in custody following an early morning shooting in Trumann.

It happened at the Columbia Forest Products Plant on Poinsett Avenue around 4:30 a.m.  Truman Police tell Region 8 News that 61-year old Bruce Pennington drove to work, pulled up next to the guard house, stepped out of his truck and shot 26-year old Dorman (Ray) Cooper once in the chest and once in the head, killing him.  

Cooper was officially pronounced dead at 4:50 a.m. but most likely died almost immediately after being shot, according to authorities.  The young security officer was an employee of Securitas, which is a 3rd party security contractor used by Columbia Forest Products as well as many other companies to outsource security jobs. 

Officials say that the suspect, Pennington, is also an engineer in upper management at the plant.  His office is located behind the guard house, on the second floor.

Authorities tell us that Pennington has no criminal history and they don't believe he had a grievance with the company.  Police don't yet know of the motive for this crime.
