Beebe: Early Parolees Could Pick Up Litter

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Beebe hopes that early parole for some prisoners could lead to cleaner roads and highways in Arkansas.

The governor is proposing a plan to parole some inmates 30 to 60 days early and have them pick up litter as a community service requirement.

Beebe and prison parole officials are still working out details of the plan.  David Guntharp, director of the Department of Community Correction, says it's still unclear how many inmates could be eligible for the program, but that officials would make sure the work is being done properly.
