Cross County Schools Get $240K Gift from Walton Foundation

CHERRY VALLEY, AR (KAIT) - High school students in the Cross County School District (CCSD) will soon have greater access to technology and enhanced educational opportunities thanks to a $240,000 donation from the Walton Family Foundation.  The gift was announced this morning at an event at the high school.

The Walton Family Foundation will enable the district to expand its 24/7 one-to-one learning program by purchasing laptop computers for its 330 high school students.  The expansion of the program to the high school will allow the district to...

-Improve student achievement in mathematics, science and literacy.

-Provide students w/access to high level technology skills and resource access.

-Enliven the teaching/learning experience through the use of new technology in the classroom, and

-Improve post-secondary employment and educational opportunities for CCSD students.

In addition to the grant from the Walton Family Foundation, the district also announced donations from two other sources.  "The Walton Family Foundation, the Barber family and the Thunderbird Foundation are helping create opportunities for students of rural eastern Arkansas that otherwise would never be realized," said state Rep. Jerry Brown.  "Technological skills are essential to prepare today's students for the jobs of tomorrow.  The Cross County School District is quickly becoming a pioneer in preparing their students with these skills."

The Walton Family Foundation works to support initiatives that honor the values and principles of Sam and Helen Walton.
