ASU Plans Twin Towers "Test Blast" on Thursday

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - There will be a small "test blast" of explosives which will be used for the upcoming demolition of Twin Towers.  The test is scheduled for Thursday at 7 a.m., weather permitting.

According to demolition contractors, the test blast will involve only a small amount of explosives and should not be disruptive to those in the area.  No special preparations are necessary by the campus community.

The sounds of detonation should be minimal, say the sub-contractors, but might startle those in the vicinity if they do not expect it.

A test blast is performed on selected typical columns in the structure.  Different quantities of explosives will be utilized to determine optimal loading densities for production loading and blasting.

The controlled implosion is set for Sunday, beginning at 5 a.m.
