ASU-Newport to Receive Major Grant for Trucking Program

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State University's Newport campus will soon be the recipient of a "major grant" from the federal government for its trucking program.

According to Senator Mark Pryor, he will join ASU-Newport Chancellor Dr. Larry Williams and Federal Motor Carrier and Safety Administrator John Hill at a news conference on Tuesday (May 27) in Newport to reveal further details.

The CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle) Operator Training Grant program is designed to expand the number of Commercial Driver License holders possessing enhanced operator safety training in order to reduce the severity and number of crashes on U.S. roads involving CMVs.  In addition, the program provides critical workforce training opportunities within economically distressed regions of the U.S.
