Norfork, Bull Shoals Ready for Weekend Warriors

MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) - Both Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes will be open for visitor use this Memorial Day weekend, despite the recent record rainfall that will keep both lakes much higher than normal throughout the summer.

Because many recreation areas managed by the Army Corps of Engineers were affected by the high water, collection of day-use fees is suspended at both lakes until those facilities are safe to use.

The Corps is also reminding the public that traffic and parking will likely congested because some public parking lots remain under water, and some campsites may appear to be useable but may be closed for repairs or safety assessments.  When boating or swimming, lake users should be aware of countless hazards that could cause damage or injury.  Boaters are encouraged to slow down, and keep a sharp lookout for obstructions and debris, and be especially cautious when approaching the shoreline.

More information is available on-line at www.swl.usace.army.mil/parks/index.html.
