Jonesboro-Based Tanker Crashes, Forcing Nursing Home Evacuation in Bartlett

BARTLETT, TN (WMC/KAIT) - A nursing home in Bartlett was evacuated this morning after a tanker truck overturned on Appling Farms Road between Ellis and Highway 70.

Region 8 News can confirm that the tanker is a Star Transportation vehicle, which was dispatched from Jonesboro.  We have also confirmed that the driver of the vehicle is ok.  Officials said the tanker was hauling approximately 8,500 gallons of unleaded gasoline.  It overturned when one of its tires slipped off a narrow stretch of road.

More than 100 patients from The Kings Daughters and Sons Home are being moved to a safe location as a precautionary measure while fuel is offloaded from the tanker into another vehicle.

The patients are being taken to the Bartlett Recreation Center and other nursing homes.  At least eight ambulances were dispatched to the home to aid the evacuation.

Officials said the tanker The Kings Daughters and Sons is a 108 bed facility that provides care for individuals who suffer from diseases including multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy, as well as people suffering from head trauma and spinal cord injuries.
