Memphis Nursing Home Evacuated after Jonesboro Tanker Truck Overturns

BARTLETT, TN - More than a hundred nursing home residents were taken to a nearby recreation center after a tanker carrying gasoline overturned near Memphis.

The evacuation was done as a precaution and there were no injuries involved in the accident this morning.  Most of the 104 residents were pushed in wheelchairs to the recreation center.  About 20, who were bedridden, were moved by ambulances.

The truck is owned and operated by Jonesboro-based Star Transportation. About 500 gallons of the truck's 8,500-gallon load leaked from the tank.

Police Lt. Rory Mack said the tanker flipped after its wheels slipped off a narrow street.

The fuel was being pumped into another truck, so the tanker could be righted.
