Walnut Ridge Cop Arrested on Child Porn Charge

HOXIE, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 cop has been implicated in an apparent undercover child pornography sting.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Walnut Ridge police officer David Mason was arrested yesterday as part of an on-going undercover operation by the Jonesboro Police Dept.  The document states that a personal computer owned by Mason was involved in the distribution of child porn.  The computer was seized Wednesday afternoon from Mason's home on Maple Street in Hoxie.  "Images that were noted in the initial investigation were still present on Mr. Mason's computer at the time of seizure," according to the affidavit.   The document also states that Mason "advised he was the sole person who downloaded the child pornography."

Shortly after his arrest, Mason was summarily dismissed from the Walnut Ridge PD.  "As soon as we learned of these allegations, he was immediately dismissed at that time," said Walnut Ridge Mayor Michelle Rogers.

More arrests are expected this afternoon in an unrelated but similar investigation by Jonesboro police, and Region 8 News will have more information on the case tonight at ten.
