Support Needed to Send Care Boxes to 39th Soldiers

RECTOR, AR (KAIT) -- Around 3,000 soldiers from Arkansas with the 39th Infantry Brigade left a few months ago for their service in Iraq.  While there are some visible symbols of support across Region 8 they also need some physical support.

"Anything that you might use they can use," said Ruth Wimberley.

Ruth Wimberley and the people of Rector have been packing care boxes for soldiers for 4 years.  She said they have never missed a month sending boxes over seas but they can't do it alone.

"We need help.  We are sending so many boxes now that it's going to be impossible for this small community to take care of it," said Wimberley.

Wimberley said with the help of the Rector Community Center they pack and send boxes out every single month.

"This past month we sent 63 and this month we already have 65 names.  It takes $11 to send every box before we put a thing in it," said Wimberley.

Wimberley said they need to keep the money they raise for postage.  To send off 65 boxes will cost $715.

That's why they're asking for donations to fill those boxes up.  If you want to make a donation you can bring it to the Rector Community Center.  While they need supplies for the care boxes, they also need help getting the boxes ready.

"We could also use help packing the boxes preparing them to mail to them," said Rector Community Center Director Nelda Chadwick.

"It doesn't make any difference where you live.  You don't have to live in Clay County.  You don't have to live in Rector.  If you're a soldier in the 39th you're one of our boys," said Wimberley.

There are many things that the soldiers need for their care boxes.
