Dispute Heightens Between Missouri's Governor and AG

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Republican Governor Blunt's administration is requiring the office of Democratic Attorney General Jan Nixon to get its approval before spending money out of a disputed state fund.

Blunt's administration commissioner, Larry Schepker, said yesterday it appears Nixon's office deliberately deposited a legal settlement check in the wrong account, and has been spending money from it.

Consequently, Schepker said he will require approval from his office before the attorney general can make future payments from that account.

Nixon's office has defended its handling of the money from the settlement with the prescription drug benefits company Caremark.
