North Arkansas Sees 4 Inmate Suicides in Three Weeks

JASPER, AR - Authorities in Baxter and Newton counties are investigating two suicides that happened Sunday at the county jails.

The deaths of 37-year-old Scott Eric Lewis and 51-year-old Bill Long are among four jail suicides that have happened in north Arkansas over the past three weeks.  Long, who was jailed on suspicion of arson, was found dead early Sunday in the Newton County jail.  Ellis, who was arrested Saturday after police received a report that he was pointing guns at passing cars on Arkansas, 5, died Sunday at the Baxter County jail.

On May 11, 28-year-old Jeffrey Brasel committed suicide in the Newton County jail, and on May 12, 51-year-old Lynn Cayia committed suicide in the Marion County jail.

Authorities say all four inmates died by hanging.
