Escaped Inmate Captured in Bootheel

CARDWELL, MO (KAIT) - After a three-and-a-half day flight with freedom, Dewey O'dell Hopper, Jr. is now back behind the bars of the Dunklin County Jail.

The rape suspect was captured early this afternoon at a home in Cardwell.  According to Dunklin Co. Sheriff Bob Holder, his office "received a call from Cardwell PD stating that they had received information that Dewey Hopper was in a residence in Cardwell.  Holder and several of his deputies, as well as members of the Mo. Hwy. Patrol and Cardwell and Arbyrd police departments responded to the residence, where Hopper was eventually found hiding underneath a couch. 

Hopper, who broke free from the jail around 9 p.m. Saturday, now faces additional charges of escape.
